Minneapolis To London
My husband and I went to London for our honeymoon, and it was awesome! We picked to go there because we both have strong theater backgrounds and wanted to check out the city’s amazing theater scene. In addition, we are both history buffs and London is a city with an amazingly rich history!
We decided to stay at the Hilton Docklands. It isn’t the traditional place to stay, sort of far from the heart of London. But it is close to a lot of really great pubs and restaurants and was in walking distance of the Underground which we took everywhere. London has amazing public transportation, which made the city very easy to navigate.
The first night, after we settled in, we did a pub crawl to all the local pubs. We had an appetizer and a beverage at each of the bars, and chatted with the locals. It was so much fun, because we saw London away from the touristy things. We also met some amazing people, some of whom we are still in contact with.
While we were in London, we went to the British Museum, which has one of the finest collection of Egyptian artifacts that you will see outside of Egypt. It is also home to the Rosetta Stone and the British Library. We totally geeked out, and had a great time!
We saw three plays while we were in London. We saw the Shaugran, Guys and Dolls starring Ewan McGregor, and Avenue Q. We got all of our tickets at the half price ticket booth in Leicester Square, which is sort of the theater district in London. They were all amazing shows, and we loved every second.
We went to Kensington Gardens, Buckingham Palace, the Prime Minister’s house, and Trafalgar Square. We watched the London Opera, cast on the side of an old building in Covent Garden, and we ate amazing food in Chinatown.
Perhaps one of my favorite things we did was shopping in Notting Hill. I loved the quaint cuteness and the shops of this part of London.
Of course, we spent a lot of time relaxing and celebrating each other too! I wouldn’t change a minute of our honeymoon, but I would have extended it if I could! I would have loved to combine London with some other neat places in England. I still want to go to Bath, and my husband is totally intrigued by Stonehenge. We also would love to someday combine London with a trip to Whales, Ireland and Scotland.
But I wouldn’t change a second of our amazing honeymoon!
